Jonathan Fisher QC has been quoted in The Times and published in Counsel calling for a new whistleblower legislative framework to bring accountability and transparency to payments made by UK officials. HMRC paid almost £350,000 to whistleblowers last year alone, police forces across the UK have expended millions on such payments over the years, and the SFO has declined to disclose its statistics. An All-Party Parliamentary Group for Whistleblowing was established last July; now is the time to remove the shroud of mystery covering such payments and the protections for those who come forward.
