Karl Masi is a barrister in independent practice with a focus on financial crime and associated civil and commercial litigation involving criminal wrong-doing and asset recovery.

His experience includes instructions as junior counsel for a derivatives trader charged with conspiracy to manipulate LIBOR and as disclosure counsel by the FCA in relation to the global FX investigation. He also has experience working within the Anti-Financial Crime department of an international investment bank advising on cross-border regulatory, bribery and corruption issues.

Alongside this, Karl is regularly instructed to litigate and provide strategic advice in the full range of criminal and civil asset recovery and enforcement proceedings. He was recently instructed by an off-shore law firm to advise on allegations of trustee fraud in several breach of trust cases within the jurisdiction and third party disclosure applications.

Karl was appointed to the Attorney General's C Panel of Junior Counsel (Civil) in February 2017. He predominately undertakes Government instructions related to civil recovery proceedings and judicial review.

Prior to practicing at the Bar, Karl worked in legal roles in the UK, Middle-East and the Turks and Caicos Islands. 

Karl is member of the Young Fraud Lawyers Association and the Proceeds of Crime Lawyer’s Association.

He is a William Shaw and Anne Goddard Scholar of Gray’s Inn.
