Jonathan Fisher QC quoted in recent FT article: UK’s money laundering legal review delayed

A recent article published in the Financial Times discussed the delays in the long-awaited government review into the UK’s anti-money laundering laws.

An action plan was set to take place before the May election to target weak spots in Britain’s anti-money laundering regime but was never materialised.

Jonathan Fisher QC was quoted saying,

‘Realistically, they really need two-to-three months with cases of suspected international corruption; you need much more time to get information from abroad. A dodgy oligarch might think twice about parking his cash in the UK if he knows that there is a real prospect of it getting frozen over three months.’

Jonathan Fisher QC is ranked as one of the UK’s leading barristers in the areas of proceeds of crime, banking and financial services regulation and is noted by the Legal Directories as having great experience in cases involving money laundering.
