Jonathan Fisher QC features in Dispatches documentary, ‘From Russia with Cash’

Channel 4 recently aired ‘From Russia with Cash’, a Dispatches documentary. The documentary exposedevidence that London’s property boom is being partly fuelled by overseas buyers laundering money.

Shown last night, 8 July 2015, the programme featured two journalists posing as a corrupt Russian politician and his girlfriend. With five different estate agents, they viewed five mansions in central London with price tags ranging from £3 million to £15 million, with the would-be corrupt politician making disclosures consistent with money laundering

Jonathan Fisher QC, consistently recognised in the Legal Directories for his experience in cases involving money laundering, featured in the documentary and stated,

‘By continuing with these discussions, the estate agent goes into this with both feet. Let’s face it, it’s mucky. It’s not a harmless activity, whether it’s Russia or whether it’s Nigeria or wherever it is in the world, somebody has lost out as a result of this person presenting himself with the proceeds of crime.’

Jonathan, watching in surprise as the undercover journalist and an estate agent plotted the purchase of a 15 million pound home in West London , said, ‘It’s a miserable and incredibly disappointing account of what estate agents, some estate agents are plainly up to in Central London, and I’d rather thought, naively, that following the introduction of the money-laundering regulations in 2003 that applied to estate agents from that point onwards, I’d rather thought we’d gone past that stage.’
