Jonathan Fisher QC comments on HSBC’s criticism by MP’s

Jonathan Fisher QC was recently quoted in an article in the Financial Times named, ‘HSBC chiefs to face MPs’ scrutiny’.

Following the wide criticism of the UK authorities’ reluctance to investigate into HSBC’s Swiss private bank tax avoidance allegations, watchdogs and politicians are now in on the scrutiny too.

Ms Homer, who appeared before MP’s last week accused HMRC of ‘being too slow to take action against the bank.’

The Serious Fraud Office also spoke out last week saying that they would co-operate with HMRC, although no formal SFO investigation has been launched.

Jonathan Fisher QC commented,

“This smacks of tokenism. [HMRC] and the CPS have all the powers they need in the criminal arena, but this has become very political.”
