FIA Corruption – ITV News at 10

Jonathan Fisher QC has been quoted in a recent ITV News exclusive report calling on the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) to investigate the legality of a multi-million pound deal between Formula 1 and it’s governing body, the Federation Internationale d’Automobile (FIA).

Confidential documents provided to ITV News purport to show that in July 2013 the FIA, an independent body, was granted, and accepted, a £3.9million payment for entering into the Concorde Implementation Agreement as well as a 1% stake in Formula 1 for over £350,000 - a sum which represents a below market rate for the stake. The details of the Agreement, although made public, failed to disclose the lump-sum payment made to the FIA and its 1% stake.

ITV News contacted Jonathan Fisher QC to discuss the nature of the information obtained and whether it amounted to potential offences of bribery.

The SFO is currently reviewing material in its possession.
