On 5th and 6th November 2018, Jonathan Fisher QC and Anita Clifford led sessions at the NEPAD regional dialogue event held at the Savoy Stanley Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

The dialogue event in Nairobi was entitled “Contract Negotiation and Fiscal Policies in the Extractive Industries”. Jonathan and Anita’s sessions addressed the problems of illicit financial flow risks in the extractive industries, with a focus on fiscal leakage from tax evasion and corruption.

NEPAD (The New Partnership for Africa's Development) is an economic development program of the African Union which aims to provide an overarching vision and policy framework for accelerating economic co-operation and integration among African countries.

Jonathan and Anita are extremely familiar with the challenges presented by tax evasion and corruption in the extractive industries. Jonathan has advised companies in recent high profile cases, and he represented the Serious Fraud Office in the dispute with Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) over the application of legal privilege.
