BLL in c.$5 billion Brazilian dam collapse case

On Tuesday 7 May 2019, Particulars of Claim were served on BHP in London stemming from Brazil’s worst ever environmental disaster – the collapse in 2015 of the Fundão tailings dam at an iron ore mine in Mariana.

The multi-billion pound claim alleges that BHP’s parent companies bear responsibility for the collapse and the ensuing devastation. 

BLL’s Russell Hopkins is a member of the Counsel team instructed by SPG Law. Russell is developing a practice focussed on the liability of corporate actors for serious human rights violations.
