An FT article, ‘High Court trial streamed on Youtube for first time’, has included a comment from Jonathan Fisher QC on the need for practical considerations whilst breaking this new ground. The article details the first case to be conducted virtually and live streamed since the emergency Coronavirus legislation, undoubtedly an important step in the continuation of justice in such difficult times. Jonathan highlights the considerations needed from an advocate’s perspective, noting that “some of the techniques of advocacy won’t translate well to screen”. It will be for advocates to determine how to continue delivering the best representations for their client in their new setting. He also observes that we have been on this trajectory for some time, so this may not be new territory for all.
